Cheap Mouth #8

Some heartwarming tea I heard that may restore your faith in humanity:

"This story is 100% true. It didn’t happen to me it happened to my uncle several years ago but it really impacted him until he died. My uncle died last year but this story needs to be heard Bc I’ve wanted to tell someone and idk who else to tell.

My uncle was born with a large birthmark on his face. As a kid my grandparents tried to get it lasered off and had lots of treatments done that only made it worse. It really hurt him because he never wanted the treatments. He felt like they were ashamed of him. But my uncle had a heart of gold. Truly a kind and caring person and was best friends with my mom until he died. He was the kind of person to never forget what you told him and to always call back and check on you.

But because of his birthmark he was treated badly his whole life. People stared. People made unbelievably cruel comments. He didn’t like to go in public so he could avoid it as much as possible. But he was always a kid at heart who loved planes and trains and he would go to the airport to watch the airshow whenever they had it.

Anyway so one day maybe five years ago or so he is at the airport when Queen Latifah, or Dana Owens, sits next to him. I don’t know if I should refer to her as Dana or Queen Latifah but I’m just gonna say Queen Latifah to make this easier. Queen Latifah approached him first and struck up a conversation. She asked my uncle about himself and his life. She hardly talked about herself until asked. My uncle said she really listened and looked at him. Most people when they talked to him only saw his birthmark. But when she talked to him she “really saw him and who he was and not his birthmark.” His words. And like she really enjoyed learning about him. Queen Latifah stayed with my uncle over TWO hours talking. For no reason other than to talk. My uncles social anxiety made it hard for him to open up but she made him comfortable. He said she was the nicest any stranger let alone *celebrity* was to him.

This story about her still makes me cry Bc I don’t know why she was so nice to my uncle but she really did impact him forever. So thank you Queen Latifah/Dana Owens for being so kind to a stranger who really appreciated it more than you know and restoring some of his faith in humanity while he was alive. I wish I had a picture to share but my uncle only ever had a flip phone."
